A complete marine diesel engine repower is more than just swapping engines—it’s a comprehensive process that ensures your vessel operates at peak performance, efficiency, and safety. At Helmut’s Marine Service, our team handles every step to deliver a seamless experience.

1. Assessment & Planning

      • Meet with the customer to discuss their goals, preferences, and vessel usage.
      • Evaluate the current vessel and engine configuration.
      • Determine the right replacement engine based on power needs, weight, and available space.
      • Plan any necessary modifications to engine mounts, fuel systems, cooling systems, and electrical connections.

2. Estimate Review & Project Approval

      • Present a detailed estimate outlining parts, labor, and any recommended upgrades.
      • Review the scope of work with the customer to ensure clarity and alignment on expectations.
      • Explain our recommendations and answer any questions before proceeding.

3. Engine Removal

      • Carefully remove the existing engine and related components while protecting the vessel’s structure and systems.

4. System Upgrades & Integration

      • Upgrade or modify fuel lines, exhaust systems, cooling circuits, and electrical systems as needed.
      • Integrate Volvo Penta Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) systems, if applicable, for complete helm-to-propeller functionality.
      • Install new instrumentation, joystick controls, or other helm upgrades to modernize operation and efficiency.

5. Engine Installation

      • Precisely position and mount the new engine.
      • Connect all mechanical, electrical, and control systems to Volvo Penta factory specifications.

6. Testing & Calibration

      • Conduct dock testing and open-water sea trials to validate engine performance under load, confirm proper drivetrain alignment, and ensure all vessel systems are fully integrated and functioning as intended.
      • Fine-tune controls, trim, and diagnostics for optimal performance and reliability.

7. Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) & Customer Handover

      • A factory-trained technician conducts a Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) with the customer.
      • Review the installation, maintenance requirements, and warranty terms.
      • Perform a sea trial together to confirm system functionality and ensure the customer is fully confident operating their new engine.

8. Documentation & Warranty

      • Record all work in the official Volvo Penta Service System for global tracking.
      • Provide full OEM warranty coverage for both parts and labor.
