Making Boating Accessible for Everyone
While there are many ways to enjoy the water, boating often feels out of reach for some. The Sausalito Boat Show is here to change that, offering different ways to experience the water—whether through boat ownership, kayaking, or chartering a boat. Boating is a passion-driven lifestyle, and those in the industry are excited to share their knowledge, helping more people get involved and making it easier for everyone to enjoy the water.
Challenges in the Marine Industry
Despite efforts to make boating more inclusive, some parts of the marine industry are struggling. Environmental changes, like warmer ocean temperatures and habitat loss, have severely impacted salmon fishing. Dwindling fish stocks have led to shorter seasons and smaller quotas for both commercial and recreational fishermen. This has created uncertainty for charter fishing boats, which rely on healthy marine ecosystems to operate.
Waves of Opportunity: A Chance for Children
Many people, including children living near waterways like the San Rafael Canal, have never had the chance to experience the sea. That’s where initiatives like Waves of Opportunity come in. Helmut’s Marine Service, in partnership with the San Rafael Channel Association and Big C Charters, is raising funds to take children from the San Rafael Canal Alliance out on the water.
Supporting the San Rafael Canal Alliance
The San Rafael Canal Alliance is a non-profit dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty for Latino immigrants and their families. Many children in the district live near the canal but have never been on a boat. Through the Waves of Opportunity event, we’re working to remove barriers and inspire a love for the ocean while supporting the charter fishing industry, which has been deeply affected by environmental challenges.
