Warranty
Helmut’s Marine Service proudly stands behind the quality of our work and the products we offer. Genuine Volvo Penta Parts and Accessories supplied and installed by our authorized Volvo Penta service workshop are covered by a 24-month warranty—up to 600 hours for leisure use or 1,000 hours for commercial use—including the labor involved in installation. Please note that this warranty excludes wear-and-tear parts.
Engines installed by Helmut’s Marine Service are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, with coverage varying based on the package and intended use.

Our Rates
Mechanical Labor
$185/hour billed in 15 min. increments with 1-hour minimum charge.
Yard Labor
$142/hour billed in 15 min. increments.
Overtime
$277.50/hour billed in 15 min. increments.
Emergency Overtime
$360/hour billed in 15 min. increments.
Forklift Rate
$370/hour with 30 min. minimum.
Haul Out
$14/foot- $350 minimum charge. Additional charges apply when extra time or labor is required for Travelift services, including offloads and loadouts. For example, excessive marine growth, ablative paint runoff, removal of items necessary to lift the vessel – such as backstays, antennae, coverings, or protective gear such as chine blocks to facilitate lifting.
Emergency Haul Outs
Additional $600.
Other Charges
Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) fee of 5% on labor will apply to all repair orders.
Storage Fees
Unless other arrangements have been made, storage charges are due at the daily rate after 24 hours when Helmut’s Marine is awaiting authorization to begin work, when owner is awaiting insurance claim approval, and/or awaiting deposits or payments on past due amounts. We provide 120 hours of free storage after your project is complete. Should the boat not be retrieved within that time frame, our storage fees will apply. Our storage charges are $6.00/foot/day. Notice may be given to the Customer either verbally, by email, text, or U.S. Mail to the contact information given by customer on the work order.
Service Calls
$185/hour billed in 15 min. increments including time for loading the tools and parts necessary, drive time at the same rate, as well as $1.00/mile plus any bridge tolls. Should a service call take longer than 8 hours due to traffic or a delay in the project, overtime will be charged for time above the 8 hours at $277.50/hour. A credit card or alternative payment information must be provided and kept on file prior to sending the technician on a service call.
Parts
We will only keep used parts if requested by the customer at the time of signing the repair order. We do not accept returns without an invoice and/or after 30 days of purchase. There is a 25% restocking fee on non-Volvo parts (if eligible from vendor) and 20% restocking fee on Volvo Penta parts. There are no returns on electrical parts and special orders. HMS will not install customer supplied parts.
Time and Material And travel Charges
These are calculated in real-time and will not estimated or invoiced until the completion of the service.
Estimates
Are valid for 30 days.
Safety Regulations
Customers are not permitted in the workshop, yard, or on sea trials. We do not allow 3rd parties to work on our premises.
Deposits
Work over $10,000 will require a 50% deposit prior to ordering parts or beginning work. Loose parts such as drives, pumps, etc. will require a 50% deposit prior to beginning work. Deposits are not refundable.
Payment
No Boat or engine will be released without payment and for service calls, a credit card must be on file. Payment is due upon completion of the job.
Late Fees
A late fee of 5% of the outstanding balance will be applied to any payment not received by completion of the job.
Interest and Overdue balances
In addition to the late fee, any unpaid balance will accrue interest at a rate of 1.5% per month (18% annually) or the maximum rate permitted by law.
Collection Fees
If payment is not received within [90] days of the due date, the account may be referred to a collection agency, and the customer agrees to pay all reasonable collection costs, including but not limited to attorney’s fees, court costs, and administrative fees.
Work Stoppage & Suspension of Services
We reserve the right to suspend ongoing services or withhold further work until all outstanding invoices are paid in full.
Repossession of Goods
If parts, equipment, or materials have been provided as part of the service and payment is not made in full, we reserve the right to reclaim any unpaid items, subject to applicable California mechanic’s lien laws.
Legal Fees
In the event of a legal dispute arising from non-payment, the customer agrees to pay all reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs incurred by Helmut’s Marine Service, INC. in the collection process.
Credit Card Surcharge
A convenience fee of 3% on transactions made through credit card payment methods. We happily welcome payments via cash, debit, check, wire transfer, or ACH payment, all of which come with no additional charges.
Warranty
Helmut’s Marine Service will warranty any repair or replacement work that proves to be defective under normal service conditions for a period of 90 days provided that we receive written notice of the defect within 90 days after departure of the Vessel from our facility. Helmut’s Marine Service will perform the repairs at its facilities unless the work had previously been performed as a service call. New genuine Volvo Penta parts and accessories supplied and installed by an authorized Volvo Penta Workshop are covered for 24 months – including the labor involved in fitting the part. Volvo Penta dealer-fitted parts exclude wear-and-tear parts. The fitted parts warranty is for 24 months or 600h (Marine Leisure); 3,000h (Marine Commercial); whichever comes first. Helmut’s Marine Service does not warrant the condition of any portion of the Vessel or its equipment in areas that are merely inspected, since many portions of the Vessel may have latent, hidden or undetectable corrosion, fatigue or defects.
