Marine Engine Parts

1. Air In → Clean, Cool Combustion
Air filters and inserts like 21196919, 21716424, and 21496510 protect your engine from dust and salt. Clean air equals efficient combustion—never underestimate this simple service item.
Tip: Replace air filters on schedule, and inspect charge-air hoses (23845358) for leaks—boost loss means power loss.

2. Fuel In → Clean Delivery, Steady Power
Your fuel system relies on filters to remove contaminants before they reach injectors.
- Top fuel system parts: 3847644, 3862228, 22480372, 21538975, 21624740
- Fuel pumps: 23306461, 23410900, 23794966
Tip: Hard starts or fluctuating RPMs? Swap your fuel filters first—it’s the most common fix for diesel or gas engines.

3. Lubrication System → The Life Blood
Oil circulation protects bearings and internal components from friction and heat.
Top oil service parts:
- Filters: 8692305, 23075366, 22030848, 841750, 847741
- Genuine Volvo Penta oils: 23219274, 21681794, 23219282
- Drain plugs and sealing rings: 21114522, 416033
Tip: Change oil and filters by both hours and time—not just whichever comes first. Always replace the sealing ring to prevent drips.

4. Cooling System → Raw Water Meets Coolant
Engines stay cool through two loops: internal coolant and raw seawater via an impeller pump.
Most-ordered parts:
- Impeller kits: 21700445, 21951348, 24139373
- Coolant: 22567314, 22567233
- Thermostats: 3587597, 3831426
- Anode kits: 23164609, 23164611
Tip: Impellers should be replaced annually—rubber blades degrade with time, even if the boat sits idle.

5. Ignition & Electrical (Gas) / Engine Management (Diesel)
From spark plugs to sensors, precision is everything.
Essential parts:
- Spark plug kits: 21467472, 22431178
- Sensors: 23117173, 24037390
- Alternator/Starter: 3884950, 3885317
Tip: Electrical faults can mimic mechanical issues—check your wiring harnesses (23561734, 23561738) and battery voltage first.

6. Exhaust & Emissions
Exhaust manifolds, risers, and bellows prevent water backflow and carbon monoxide leaks.
Key parts: 3847640 manifold, 3588753 bellows, 3863450 kit, 3889786 gasket
Tip: Cracks or rust trails around riser joints indicate gasket failure—replace immediately.

7. Front-End Drive → Belts, Tensioners & Pulleys
Belt-driven accessories keep alternators and pumps spinning smoothly.
Top parts: 21407028 belt, 3885250 tensioner, 24077907 idler
Tip: Replace belts and tensioners together for proper alignment and tension consistency.

8. Sealing & Fastening → The Unsung Heroes
From O-rings to gaskets, the smallest parts keep everything watertight.
Common items:
- O-rings: 3855081, 949656, 925093
- Sealing rings: 416033, 3593663
- Gaskets: 3889788, 947620, 22206133
Tip: Every reassembly deserves a fresh gasket or O-ring—it’s cheap insurance against leaks.

9. Sterndrive & Trim Hardware
Where horsepower meets the water.
Key parts:
- Propellers: 3885841, 3817469, 22417007
- Trim pumps: 21945915
- Cylinders: 22187387, 22187388
- Anodes: 23974203, 23164609
Tip: Replace anodes before they’re 50% consumed and check bellows for cracks at least once per season.

10. The Fluids That Keep It All Moving
- Engine oil: 23219274, 21681794
- Transmission oil: 1141680, 22971553
- Coolant: 22567314, 22567233
- Grease & corrosion protection: 828250 lubricating grease, 21234027 anti-rust agent
Tip: Always use fluids that meet Volvo Penta specifications—mixing brands can compromise seals and cooling performance.
Maintenance Rhythm
| Interval | Key Tasks |
| Every outing | Check oil, coolant, and anode condition |
| Every 50–100 hours | Oil & fuel filters, impeller, anode inspection |
| Annually | Bellows, coolant check, thermostat, hose replacement |
| Multi-year | Manifold/riser replacement, belt & tensioner service |
Note: This is a general guideline. Each engine package has it own service protocol based off engine hours/months whichever comes first which should be followed and you can find here.
